  • A resident of Cornwall, OR a non-resident owner or tenant of land in Cornwall (or the spouse of one).
  • Not legally disqualified from running.
Common disqualifications include sitting judges, sitting MPs / Senators / MPPs (must resign before filing), municipal employees (must take an unpaid leave or resign), and people serving a sentence in a penal institution.

Step 2

What does the councillor do?

Local

Specific to Cornwall

  • Important name disambiguation: Cornwall, Prince Edward Island (this file) vs. Cornwall, Ontario — they share a name. The PEI municipality's site is `cornwallpe.ca`; the Ontario city's is `cornwall.ca`.
  • Cornwall amalgamated with the former communities of Eliot River, Meadowbank, Cornwall, and North River in the 1990s and absorbed additional area more recently — check the most current boundary map before nominating.
  • Town has a sign bylaw with an election-sign removal deadline.
  • Mayor MacDonald (Heath) served multiple terms before moving to provincial then federal politics. Current mayor McCourt was elected in the 2022 cycle.
