Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making campaign technology accessible to everyone.

Our Commitment

RidingDesk is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards across our platform.

Accessible Campaign Technology

Democratic participation is a fundamental right. Campaign technology must be accessible to all candidates, volunteers, and staff — regardless of ability. When campaign tools are inaccessible, they create barriers that exclude people from the democratic process. At RidingDesk, we believe that building accessible software is not optional — it is essential to fair and inclusive elections.

Volunteers with visual impairments should be able to make phone banking calls. Candidates who rely on keyboard navigation should be able to review their canvassing data. Campaign managers using screen readers should have full access to analytics dashboards. We design and build with these realities in mind.

Measures We Have Taken

We apply the following accessibility practices throughout the RidingDesk platform:

  • Semantic HTML

All pages use proper semantic HTML5 elements — headings, landmarks, lists, and form labels — to ensure content structure is meaningful and machine-readable.

  • ARIA Labels & Roles

Interactive components include appropriate ARIA attributes to convey state, purpose, and relationships to assistive technologies.

  • Full Keyboard Navigation

Every feature of the platform can be operated using a keyboard alone, including data tables, modals, dropdown menus, and form controls.

  • Screen Reader Support

We test with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver to ensure that all content, notifications, and dynamic updates are announced correctly.

  • Colour Contrast Ratios

Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).

  • Visible Focus Indicators

All focusable elements display clear, high-contrast focus rings so keyboard users can always see where they are on the page.

  • Responsive Design

The platform adapts to all screen sizes and supports text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full compliance, the following areas have known limitations that we are actively working to resolve:

  • Map-based visualisations: Interactive riding maps used in canvassing and GOTV modules have limited screen reader support. We are implementing text-based alternatives and data tables as fallbacks.Target remediation: Q3 2026
  • PDF report exports: Some exported PDF reports may not be fully tagged for accessibility. We are migrating to accessible PDF generation.Target remediation: Q2 2026
  • Legacy data import wizards: Older CSV import flows are being rebuilt with improved keyboard navigation and error messaging.Target remediation: Q2 2026

Canadian Accessibility Law References

RidingDesk is designed to comply with Canadian federal and provincial accessibility legislation, including:

  • Accessible Canada Act (ACA): Federal legislation (Bill C-81) that aims to create a barrier-free Canada by 2040. As a technology provider serving federally regulated activities, we align our practices with ACA requirements for information and communication technologies.
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA): Ontario's accessibility legislation requires organizations to meet the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR), including WCAG 2.0 Level AA for web content. RidingDesk meets and exceeds these standards.
  • Provincial equivalents: We monitor and comply with accessibility requirements in all Canadian provinces and territories where our users operate campaigns.

Third-Party Accessibility Auditing

We engage independent accessibility auditors to evaluate the RidingDesk platform on a regular basis. Our most recent third-party audit was conducted in Q1 2026 and covered all core platform features including the voter database, canvassing tools, fundraising module, and analytics dashboards. Audit findings are incorporated into our product roadmap and remediated on a prioritised schedule.
