On the day you file your nomination paper for councillor in Three Rivers, you must be:

The nomination process

Filing happens at the municipal CAO / Returning Officer, in person during regular office hours and on nomination day until 2:00 PM. You'll need to bring:

  • Nomination paper, signed in the presence of the clerk or a commissioner of oaths.
  • 5 nominators (some bylaws raise to 10) from eligible electors of Three Rivers.
  • Government-issued photo ID showing your name and qualifying address.
  • Filing fee: None at the provincial level. Charlottetown sets its own deposit by bylaw.

  • Amalgamation history: Three Rivers was created on September 28, 2018 by merging the towns of Montague and Georgetown with several rural communities (Cardigan, Lower Montague, Brudenell, Lorne Valley, Valleyfield, plus parts of Lots 51, 52, 53, 59, and 60). It was PEI's first major amalgamation under the new MGA.
  • Geographic spread is large: ~530 km² covering eastern Kings County. Council meetings rotate between community halls so different parts of the town can attend.
  • Because the town is a patchwork of former rural communities, ward boundaries reflect community identity (Gaspereaux, Montague, Brudenell, Launching) rather than equal population — Ward 2 (Montague) has roughly 60% of the town's population and gets 2 councillors as a result.
  • Town has its own sign bylaw.
